Child Work

" I would still do immunisation but it would be psychological rather than biological”   Jonas Salk  (developed Polio vaccine).

Currently, children who 'do not behave' or are experiencing 'growing pains' are diagnosed with all sorts of disorders that usually require medication and unwanted side effects.

Treatment choices are medication or waiting for the child to outgrow the bad behaviour, with negative consequences for all concerned. Children naturally absorb knowledge and some bad behaviours are learned outside home, amongst their peers. Sometimes children 'act out' stresses or conflicts emerging from their immediate environment (home or school). If not addressed, these behaviours can have negative consequences in adulthood.

Mission Statement: "Committed to secure the rights of children".

Children are usually very open and receptive to positive change. I work with children and adolescents in a variety of settings.  Young clients are able to explore their issues in a safe environment which allows them to have insights into  Their underlying behaviour.

I use various child centred techniques: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), drawing, playing, metaphor, working with dreams, visualizations, assertiveness training and energetic techniques. These teach children to overcome obstacles, gain self confidence and esteem to allow them to develop into positive, happy, strong beings with a love of learning. The techniques used will protect children from negative emotional and mental blocks that may lead to depression and poor health in adulthood.

I generally work with the parent present for the protection and safety of the child and this can be reviewed, if appropriate. Working with the family helps to identify 'dynamics' and other issues that maybe triggering the child or adolescent to 'act out' negatively.

For the your child's safety and security I carry an Enhanced Police Check. (presented on request).

If you have any questions about techniques, If there are any other issues affecting your child or would like to discuss how your child may benefit, please contact me.

Bullying in Schools

This is very distressing for the bullied child and some children keep their experiences to themselves because they are afraid and may have learned that help is unavailable.

Surrey Schools adhere to the "No Blames" anti-bullying policy which effectively blames the victim and their family.  Unfortunately bullying impacts children, families and society as a whole. In terms of health, social problems and educational disadvantage and underachievement.

Psychological Studies show that Bullying causing stress, shrinks the Hippocampus (in the Limbic brain), preventing learning. Stress modifies hippocampal synaptic plasticity and spatial learning. Bullied children may develop psychosomatic symptoms (headaches & stomach aches) to avoid school & which may develop into a school phobia. Other symptoms may involve depression, low self esteem, eating disorders, learning difficulties, self harming, substance and alcohol abuse, extreme bouts of raging, running away etc.

Remember your child deserves a good education in a safe and healthy school environment.
